Dividend Yield Funds are relatively less volatile than growth oriented funds but the name doesn’t mean that they have to mandatorily pay dividends. Dividend Yield Funds put a majority of their investments – typically between 65 to 60% - higher than the average yield of the market. Now this method has more than one advantage. Investment is made in companies that have stable cashflows and who pay regular dividends. A second benefit is that even during downturns, these companiesdo not usually default or even lower down on paying dividends; hence, become the safest bets.
